The Athens-Clarke County Police Department is investigating a shooting that left a suspect dead. According to a media release from the department, shortly before 7:30 this morning, officers responded to a report of a shooting in progress.
When they arrived on the scene on Ponderosa Drive, they found two victims with gunshot wounds, as well as the suspect who was dead on the scene. Witness say the suspect and victims knew each other.
The release states the suspect arrived at the home and forced one victim who was leaving for work back into the house at gunpoint. The suspect and one victim exchanged gunfire. Two victims, both residents of the home, were injured. The victims were taken to a local hospital.
The investigation into the incident is continuing.
