Oconee County Schools Launches First Annual Parent Academy Program

Oconee County Schools

Oconee County Schools launched the first annual parent academy program, a free, six-session workshop where parents can learn more about public schools in the community. The sessions are scheduled between January and March.

“The Board of Education is very pleased to offer this experience, and we appreciate these 22 parent leaders for their commitment to our school system and community,” said Board Chair Tom Odom in a press release. “The citizens of Oconee County have a long-standing track record of being supportive of their schools and that is certainly evident with such strong participation and interest with our first annual VILLA program.”

Parents will learn more about the Board of Governance, teaching and learning, operations, human resources, business services and communications. They will also visit several schools in the system.

Each principal selected two parents to be leaders within their respective school communities.

The participants are Deanne Rosso and Natalie Sams, Oconee County Primary; Alex Pershka and Brandy Hale, Colham Ferry Elementary; Paige Hayes and Kim Heath, Dove Creek Elementary; Katie Collins and Jennifer Koberger, High Shoals Elementary; Tiffany Carter and Kate Morgan, Malcom Bride Elementary; Katie Castleberry and Kate Gelsthorpe, Oconee County Elementary; Madonna Poole and Monica Wesolowski, Rocky Branch Elementary; Beatrice Howard and Tammy Rumpf, Malcom Bridge Middle; Rebecca Bishop and Robin Mayo, Oconee County Middle; Leigh Morris and Heather Kincaid, North Oconee High; Amie Dunford and Joanne Frantz, Oconee County High
