Using Farming For Racial Healing

Author, mother and food justice activist Leah Penniman will deliver a lecture on March 25 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the ACC Library Auditorium in association with Athens Land Trust and Avid Bookshop.

Penniman will speak about her new book Farming While Black and the impact of farming and gardening to intersect racial healing and community.

“We hope this event will create a bridge in the community for our farmers and sparks conversations on how we can come together and support an equitable local food system in Athens”, said Community Agriculture Director Austin Bagley.

Penniman is also a co-founder of Soul Fire Farm, a project committed to ending racism and injustice in the food system, providing food to people in food deserts, and transferring skills to the next generation of farmer-activists.
