Chelsea Clinton in Athens to Sign Copies of 'Don't Let Them Disappear' Children's Book

Chelsea Clinton will be in Athens Wednesday evening. She’s making an appearance the Avid Book Shop’s Prince Avenue location. Clinton will sign copies of her newest book, “Don’t Let Them Disappear.” The book is about the animals that share our planet and what we can do to help them survive.

“My fifth one for kids and young readers, Don’t Let Them Disappear focuses on 12 endangered species and why they’re endangered and what we all can do, including kids, to try to ensure that they don’t disappear.”

Clinton added a personal touch to the book.

“I have to be honest, I included elephants because they’re my favorite. I spoke to lots of kids about what they’re favorite endangered animals are, so I hope that at least most kids will find one or two of their favorites in the pages.”

Clinton spoke with WUGA’s Chris Shupe and explained her process of writing children’s books.

“Well, I spent lots of time listening to kids before I start writing and then I really rely on the kids who are generous to read early drafts, sometimes of just a section of the book, or the whole book. I want books to be informative, absolutely also want them to be entertaining, and I want them to be empowering. I also think it’s really important to not talk down to kids.”
