The Athens Orthopedic Clinic is celebrating 40 Years of Gears at this year’s annual Twilight Criterium. Tens of thousands of people are expected to converge on downtown Athens for a weekend full of events. BikeAthens is hosting a Joy Ride this evening from 6 to 7 pm. The women’s race gets underway Saturday at 7 pm and the men’s race begins at 8:30pm. Twilight is AOC Twilight is the 2nd race of the USA Crits circuit.
Criterium racing focuses on power instead of endurance. Male cyclists will complete 80 laps around the track and women 40.
Some downtown roads are already closed for the weekend-long event. In addition to the race, Twilight features live music, a food court, and expo and VIP accommodations. Other events include a 5K, events for children.
