Georgia has selected Deloitte Consulting to help the state develop federal health care waiver plans.
Republican Gov. Brian Kemp announced on Monday that Deloitte's proposal had a $1.92 million price tag, under the $2.6 million budgeted.
If approved by the federal government, a waiver could allow Georgia to adopt a more conservative expansion of Medicaid than is called for under the 2010 Affordable Care Act, also known as "Obamacare".
Bidding was limited to six "eligible consulting firms" that are currently under statewide contract with Georgia's Department of Administrative Services, drawing criticism about the openness of the process.
Alongside Deloitte, Accenture, Ernst & Young, KPMG, McKinsey & Company and Public Consulting Group were able to bid.
The state's Department of Community Health says all but McKinsey & Company submitted proposals.
