Athens-Clarke county ranks as one of the top ten places to work in manufacturing. That’s according to a new study by SmartAsset.
The manufacturing industry accounts for 8% of the U.S. workforce, which translates to roughly 12.8 million employees nationwide. Athens came in at number 8 on the list.
The financial technology company says Athens-Clarke County stands out as one of the best places to work in manufacturing because of its strong job growth in recent years.
From 2014 to 2017, the number of manufacturing jobs increased by 32.5%, the seventh-highest increase of any area in the study.
Additionally, from just 2016 to 2017, the number of manufacturing jobs increased by 22.0%, the sixth-highest rate across all 376 metro areas in the study. Elkhart-Goshen, Indiana was number one on that list. Rome, Georgia came in at number 15.
