The University of Georgia is calling on federal authorities to reconsider a controversial ruling that could deny visas to international students. On Monday, UGA President Jere Morehead added the University of Georgia’s name to a letter calling for a reversal in the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency’s July 6th directive.

If ICE fails to reverse course, the letter also asks Congress to pass legislation to grant flexibility for international students and institutions during the upcoming semester and COVID-19 pandemic. UGA's Office of Global Engagement says it continues to monitor the suggestion. According to the University's admissions office, UGA is home to some 2.600 international students from 125 countries.
