ACC Police Advisory Board Development Task Force Reviews Public Input

Athens-Clarke County Government

The Athens-Clarke County Police Advisory Board Development Task Force met digitally on Wednesday, July 22nd. It reviewed the results of a recently completed public survey, which the task force plans to use to develop the board’s goals and purpose.

Responses from the survey addressed many issues, including police transparency, community engagement, and police practices and culture.

Task force member Nikema Stovall spoke during the meeting, raising concerns about the makeup of respondents. “I just hope that people who are affected by this stuff are more so a part of this decision making process, more so than the people that are right here on this group and the people who are doing the survey,” he stated.

Mokah Jasmine Johnson, cofounder of the Athens Anti-discrimination Movement and chair of the development task force, added during the meeting, “This is the first phase, but definitely the people that are impacted the most should be a part of the long run board.”

The task force plans to use public input to determine which model of police oversight the board will follow.
