UGA Students Begin Moving Back into Dorms

University of Georgia students began moving back into dorms Friday. While moving into dorms is already stressful for most new students, doing so during a pandemic adds to the anxiety.

Catherine Buntin is a first-year student.

“It’s exciting but it’s also really scary and safety is definitely a concern, but I think they’re doing a really good job at making sure everyone’s safe.”

Sister Elizabeth Buntin is also a freshman.

“It is a little bit different since we having hybrid classes, so it’ll be more of a gradual adjustment I guess,” Buntin said. “So it does depend on the class and the teacher and the class size.”

Fellow first-year Zachery Nelson says he was apprehensive but he’s already adjusting to his new surroundings.

“I’ve been kind of nervous all day, but like the drive down here I was terrified but now that I’m here and everybody’s super welcoming and stuff, it’s not that scary.”

His parents Angela and James Beavers have mixed emotions dropping him off.

“It’s a very bittersweet moment, it’s exciting, it’s sad, it’s just a lot of mixed emotions, I haven’t cried yet, but the day’s not over,” said Beavers.

She thinks he’ll manage well during the pandemic.

“He’s very mature and smart abut sanitizing his mask and he’s always getting own me, ‘mom put your mask on, mom sanitize your hands. I think he’s do fine.”

Meanwhile James is putting his trust in a higher power.

“It’s a blessing for him to get to here and we thank God for it, Jesus Christ is the only way this happened.”

UGA starts in-person classes August 20.
