GBI Investigating the Death of Inmate at ACC Jail

The GBI is investigating the death of an inmate at the Athens-Clarke County jail. 

According to a media release from the Clarke County Sheriff’s Office, 44-year old Calvin Jamain Cunningham died on September 25th. Cunningham collapsed while walking up some stairs in a housing unit. Deputies and medical staff tried to stabilize Cunningham, who was then taken to the hospital by EMS where he was pronounced dead. Initial indications show Cunningham died of natural causes. 

He was being held on a misdemeanor probation violation charge. 

His body was taken to the GBI Crime Lab.
