Tate Student Center Catches Fire After Commencement

News Break

A portion of the roof of the University of Georgia's Tate Student Center caught fire on October 16th.

According to the Red and Black, the University of Georgia Police Department received a call about the fire around 9 p.m. this past Friday, which was shortly after UGA's spring and summer commencement ceremony at Sanford Stadium.

The Athens Clarke County Fire Department was able to quickly extinguish the fire and found no injuries and little damage to the building. The cause of the incident is under investigation, though it is suspected that the fireworks during the commencement ceremony may have played a role.

The Tate Center was closed this past weekend but reopened today for normal operating hours.
