Athens-Based Podcast Tracks Unsolved Murder of Tara Baker

Classic City Podcast Facebook

An Athens resident is reaching out to the community for help in resolving an unsolved murder of a UGA student. Cameron Jay is co-producer and host of the Classic City Crime podcast.

“I’ve always had a fascination with true crime, I was actually in the funeral business for three years and got to see a lot of true crime cases up close and personal.”

He says he started the podcast when the pandemic began and he wanted to do something to make a difference.

“I started doing some research and I came across the case of Tara Louise Baker, a UGA Law student who was brutally murdered and attacked in her home here in Athens in 2001. Two decades later, there are still no answers in that case, well no answers until now that is, and we’re just working every day to find new leads.”

Jay says the podcast has evolved as he has gotten more involved.

"When I started the podcast, Alexia, I must tell you that I thought I would do one case per episode and then we would just keep moving and keep talking about different cases, that was until I met the Baker family and got to know them very well and got to know Tara’s life very well and I said, there’s so much here and so many people willing to talk that we can’t just stop, we have to keep going. So here we are, episode 18 of season one, 'The Tara Baker Story'."
