ACC Commission Seeks to Expand Downtown Ecostations

The Mayor and Commission met for a work session yesterday evening. One noteworthy topic on the agenda was the expansion of downtown eco-stations.

Yesterday evening, Solid Waste Director Suki Janssen presented a detailed plan to expand eco-stations, which are meant to be a phased-in replacement to the current trash collection system in Athens.

Suki Janssen:

"We have to finish discussions with a couple of the spots that are privately owned, but we feel like 21 to 22 eco-stations could completely fill all of downtown for us."

Advantages of eco-stations include increased safety for sanitation workers as well as fewer pickups. They could also serve as bike-racks, charging stations for the community.
