As COVID cases continue to surge across the county, 93 percent are the result of the Delta Variant.
That’s according to the CDC.
In Georgia 6,480 new coronavirus infections were reported in the last day, along with 21 deaths statewide. In Clarke County, there were 96 new cases of COVID-19 reported yesterday, more than 5 times the number reported on July 6th, following independence day festivities.
In neighboring Oconee County, there were 23 new cases reported on August 3rd alone, an increase from the 2 cases reported on July 6th.
As for hospital capacity, 85 percent of inpatient beds in the Athens region are being used to treat patients, and 97 percent of the region's ICU beds are in use.
Also, more than half of regional ventilators are currently being used.
