Chandler Park Dedication in Winterville

City of Winterville

The city of Winterville is inviting members of the community and others to the dedication of a new park. Mayor Dodd Ferrell says Chandler Park is named in honor of a former long-time city employee and resident loss during the pandemic.

“Many years ago, we determined that we were going to need a rest stop for trail users once the Firefly Trail was down, so we started talking about the idea of a park I. our city square,” Farrell said. “During COVID, we lost one of our dear community members in George Chandler, city engineer for a long time and just basic all around Wintervillian.”

City councilwoman Amanda Mooney says the dedication isn’t just for Winterville residents.

“Everybody is invited, Georgia Chandler touched so many lives; and so many people statewide are probably going to be making a trip that day to our small little city,” according to Mooney. “So we’re really excited to have everybody come be a part of it.”

Chandler Park, located at 101 Marigold Lane, will also feature two new murals, one by Athens artist David Hale and one by artist Marissa Mustard.

“It’s a real good tribute to our friend and community member and to all the work he’s done for our city.”

The brief dedication ceremony will begin Thursday, October 14th at 4 pm, events will then move to the covered pavilion in Pittard Park for light reception.
