Tomorrow is election day and on the ballot in Athens-Clarke County is the option to renew ESPLOST, a one penny sales tax to fund education improvements.
The tax could potentially collect $120 million over the next five years to fund projects like a brand new Clarke Middle School, renovations at Cedar Schools, Gaines, Alps Road and Cleveland Road elementary schools, plus new buses and technology upgrades.
Athens has had ESPLOST continuously running since 1998, and the tax is up for renewal every 5 years.
Past ESPLOST-funded projects have included a new Hilsman Middle School, as well as Barnett Shoals, Oglethorpe and Whitehead elementary schools.
