Plan for $5K pay raise for state employees passes GA House

Members of the Georgia House voted overwhelmingly to pass the state’s supplementary budget today. That measure, HB 910, is a package of adjustments to the state’s current budget. It also contains a potential $5,000 raise for many state employees. That pay bump was proposed last month by Governor Brian Kemp.

Right now, the state can afford the measure; revenues are flying high thanks to increased consumer spending and federal pandemic relief funds, which have left the state with a $3.7 billion budget surplus.

The 152 – 4 vote today in the House advances the measure to the State Senate for consideration.
