A University of Georgia student died in fire in a fire early Saturday morning. According to Athens-Clarke County Coroner Sonny Wilson, the victim has been identified as 20-year-old Conner Strickland, from White Plains, Georgia.
ACC Fire and Emergency Services units were dispatched at 4:47 am Saturday and arrived on the scene at South Lumpkin Street four minutes later. Crews reported heavy flames on the front of the structure. According to a release, they made an aggressive interior attack on the fire while searching for trapped victims. Strickland was found in a rear bedroom. He was given medical care at the scene and taken to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The two other residents home at the time escaped the burning house, a fourth was out of town.
The investigation into the cause and origin of the fire is continuing.
