Researchers at the University of Georgia say that high school athletes who focus on one sport versus playing several are more likely to be injured and to suffer burnout.
According to a survey, over 20% of high school athletes reported being highly specialized in one sport. Students who plan to play in college are more likely to specialize.
The study's lead author is Dee Warnath, an assistant professor in the College of Family and Consumer Sciences. Warnath's study was published in the Orthopaedic Journal of Sports Medicine.
