Athens Ranks High in Student Loan Debt

Millions of college students are graduating this year, with record high student loan debt, some $1.61 trillion. According to the personal finance website WalletHub, student loans make up the second highest form of household debt after mortgages.
More than 2,500 cities were studied for the list of 2022’s cities with the most and least student debt. Unfortunately, Athens ranked in the 2^nd percentile, with an average of $39,000 in debt, two thousand more than the national average.
Analyst Jill Gonzalez says the situation has become even more difficult due to the pandemic.
