ACC elections officials find and fix two voting errors

Two ballot errors have been found and corrected in Athens Clarke County just days before the May 24th election.

One error was at the Cedar Shoals polling site where there were incorrect ballot combinations for Board of Education districts 1 and 8. That error affected 73 voters. Under Georgia law none of those ballots can be recast.

The ACC board of elections says as of May 11th, the error was fixed and the correct ballots have been in use. Another error was discovered and fixed Tuesday for residents on Hunnicutt Drive which were assigned to the incorrect precinct. Four of the voters involved used absentee ballots that had not been cast yet and they will be allowed to turn in the correct ballots.

As of Tuesday, 4,142 ballots had been cast in Athens-Clarke County, out of nearly 83,000 eligible voters. Roughly 59 percent of the ballots were cast by Democrats, with 40 percent by Republicans, and nonpartisan ballots accounting for one percent of ballots cast.

In Oconee County, with nearly three thousand early votes cast as of the end of the day Monday, 86 percent were cast by Republicans and 14 percent by Democrats. Early voting ends today.
