The Athens-Clarke County government has reinstated the mask requirement, at least temporarily.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention updated Athens-Clarke County’s community level of COVID-19 as high in its most recent report. As a result, the Mayor and Commission extended a local state of emergency and have reinstated mask requirements in public spaces and private entities, with limited exceptions, regardless of vaccination status.
The policy requires all employees and community members to wear masks inside government buildings, in shared public space and on transit vehicles.
The CDC updates its report weekly.
According to the county website, www.accgov.com, the current declaration expires July 20, 2022, unless renewed or changed by the Mayor and Commission.
