Update: UGA Plans to Reopen Biological Sciences Building on Friday
Due to continuing clean-up, the Biological Sciences Building will remain closed to the general public through Thursday. However, at this time, the University plans to reopen the building for a full day of instruction on Friday, September 2.
Principal Investigators and researchers may continue to access the facility tomorrow on an as-needed basis, but the building will remain closed for classes on Thursday. The Office of the Vice President for Instruction is encouraging faculty to reach out to their students about any alternative assignments with the goal of continuity of instruction.
The building had to be shut down earlier this morning, when a malfunctioning piece of equipment in a lab on the 8th floor activated the building’s sprinkler system. Water and smoke filtered down to other levels of the building, and crews have been working all day to remove the water and dissipate the smell of smoke.
To summarize, the Biological Sciences Building will remain closed tomorrow, but the University plans to reopen the building for classes at 8 a.m. on Friday, September 2. An update to the campus community will be sent tomorrow.
