Labor day holiday travel cost drivers less as gas prices continue to ease nationwide.
Gas in the greater Athens area averages $3.23 a gallon, an eight cents a gallon drop from last week and a 50 cents a gallon decline from this time last month. Prices at some stations in the area have broken the three dollars a gallon mark.
The statewide average is nearly ten cents a gallon higher that the Athens area average. The average nationwide is $3.79 a gallon. California continues to lead the nation with an average price of $5.27, but some areas of that state are approaching $5.83 a gallon.
