Four ballot questions face Georgia voters in midterm elections

Georgia voters are deciding on four ballot questions during this election.

Question one provides for suspension of compensation of certain state officers and legislators. In essence, the constitutional amendment would stop allowing key state officials and members of the general assembly from collecting their pay if they were indicted on a felony charge related to their performance in office.

Question two provides temporary relief from local taxes for property owners after disasters. As an example, if a home is destroyed in March, the owners would still have to pay taxes based on the Jan. 1 value. The constitutional amendment allows — but does not require — local governments to grant property tax relief in such circumstances.

Question three provides an ad valorem tax exemption for certain timber production, reforestation and harvesting equipment.

The fourth question expands ad valorous tax exemption for family owned farms and adds qualified products to the exemption.
