Early voting for the upcoming runoff election ends Friday at 5 pm. Georgians are turning out in records numbers to cast their ballots. For most residents, the ability to vote is as simple as getting registered, but the nonprofit organization the Sentencing Project is working to extend that opportunity to people with prior felony convictions. Sarah Shannon is the Director of the Criminal Justice Studies Program at the University of Georgia. She co-authored the 2022 report, “Locked Out 2022: Estimates of People Denied Voting Rights.”
Shannon says the situation isn’t as difficult in Georgia.
