ACC District 2’s Candidate Qualifier starts Dec. 19

As Georgia settles down after a contentious runoff election, Elections officials in Clarke County are preparing for a March special election for District 2’s vacant commissioner seat.

After a flurry of discussion between community members and the Athens-Clarke County Board of Elections Office, the BOE agreed to set District 2’s election for March 21st. Candidates for District 2’s vacant seat will need to submit qualifying documentation and a fee of $450 to elections officials between Dec. 19 - Dec. 21.

For information on voter registration for the March election, visit ACCGov’s website or call (706) - 613 - 3150.

On August 29, District 2’s Mariah Parker announced their resignation over a Twitter post, leading to mixed community reactions. Parker’s supporters applauded the former commissioner for focusing on their mental health and role as a community activist. However, other Athenians, many from Parker’s district, said Parker abandoned Athens residents.
