Freezing rain and gusty winds with a chance of snow in forecast later this week

Weather forecasts predict extremely cold and hazardous temperatures across north and central Georgia over the next week.

Temperatures in Athens are expected to be below freezing with highs in the 20s and low 30s and a low between 5 and 20 degrees. Wind chill values could be as cold as 5 to 15 degrees below zero.

A powerful and fast-moving storm system is likely to cause freezing rain and gusty winds with a chance of snow -- causing forecasters to warn of icy road conditions.
