Georgia guard/forward Audrey Warren (31) during a match against Alabama State University at Stegeman Coliseum in Athens, Ga., on Thursday, Nov. 10, 2022. In the Bulldogs' January 2 match against top-ranked South Carolina, Warren recorded her sixth game scoring in double digits with 12 points against the Gamecocks.

UGA women’s basketball fell to number-one ranked South Carolina in Athens on Monday. The final score from Stegeman Coliseum was 68-51.

The game was closer than the final score might indicate, however. The top-ranked Gamecocks didn’t take a lead until well into the third quarter, and Georgia held Carolina’s Aliyah Boston, ranked by ESPN as the top women’s player in the US, to an anemic four points.

With the loss, Georgia falls to 11-5 for the season and 0-2 in the SEC. They’ll try to patch up their SEC record with a game against 8-6 Kentucky in Athens on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the men’s basketball team squares off against Auburn tomorrow at 6:30 pm, also here in Athens. The match against Auburn is the first SEC game for the 10-3 men’s team.
