The Georgia House has approved a $1 billion property tax break and a $1 billion income tax break. The Georgia House approved the $32.5 billion measure on a 170-1 vote.

If given final approval, homeowners would receive an extra one time exemption on the value of their homes at tax time. The governor said last month that his proposal would save those Georgians, on average, about $500.

The moves are part of a plan to amend this year's budget to spend another $2.4 billion in projected revenue. House Bill 18 would spend $14.5 million to give one time $250 bonus payments to 55,000 retired state employees.

The state Senate will now consider the midyear budget.
