Obesity continues to pose a problem for Georgia and the rest of the nation. Recent data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention showed seven out of 10 adults in the U.S. aged 20 and older are wither overweight or obese. Obesity costs the nation’s healthcare system $173 billion per year. Jill Gonzalez is an analyst with the personal finance website WalletHub, she says Georgians face several health consequences as well.

Dr. Nadine Gracia is President and CEO of the nonprofit Trust for America’s Health. She says while adult obesity dropped slightly in 2021, some population groups are more at-risk.

According to the CDC, Georgia had an obesity rate of 33.9 percent. West Virginia had the highest rate of obesity, Colorado the lowest.
