For two nights remaining, The Cottage is showing the raunchy, funny, and thought-provoking play, The Vagina Monologues (TVM), to raise money for domestic and sexual abuse survivors.
Written and produced by V, formerly Eve Ensler, TVM turned interviews with over 200 women into a series of monologues about sexual empowerment. While TVM mostly uses monologues from the 90s, Director Tracy Brown calls the play timeless.
In dealing with sexual violence and reproductive rights, cast member Jamie Mendenhall-Turner calls TVM an act of political defiance against a wave of conservative rulings. He says acting in TVM is especially important to him as a trans man.
Assistant Director Kat Farlowe says that while TVM empowers its actors and audience, the play’s greatest strength is in bringing people together.
