The Jeannette Rankin Foundation is kicking off Women’s History Month with the organization’s annual Legacy Lecture featuring a historical reenactment of the life of Rankin, who was the first woman elected to the U.S. Congress.
Though Rankin was born in Montana, she later became a long-time resident of Georgia. The Rankin Foundation provides unrestricted scholar grants to women 35 and older across the country, and 25 and older in Georgia and Montana, who are pursuing their first associate's or bachelor's degree.
The Jeannette Rankin Legacy Lecture is being co-produced with the Athens Chautauqua Society and UGA’s Russell Library. It takes place March 1st at 4 pm at the Russell Special Collections libraries.
The event is free, but registration is requested. Visit rankinfoundation.org for more information.
Karen Sterk, CEO of the Athens-based national nonprofit, discussed the event with WUGA.
