Democratic lawmakers in Georgia are calling on the governor to convene a special session to address gun violence.
The call comes a week after police arrested a man for a shooting in midtown Atlanta that left a woman dead and four other injured.
Democrats said several gun control measures — such as requiring background checks on all gun purchases and “red flag” laws that temporarily take firearms away from gun owners who have been identified as a danger to themselves or others — poll well across party lines.
In an interview this week with WSB TV, Governor Kemp ruled our a special session focused on firearms. Kemp said there is a lot of posturing by politicians right now and that he is continuing to gather facts on the individual involved in the shooting and the circumstances that led to the incident.
