Athens-Clarke County commissioners are expected to vote tonight on whether to approve an additional $25.8 million in borrowing for the Classic Center Arena.
If commissioners vote yes on the measure, it would be the third round of bond financing for the project. The $25.8 million includes the total cost to finish the project, after the master developer, which was providing some financial backing, dropped out of the contract. Classic Center officials say the contract with the master developer is being renegotiated.
The arena project has caused some consternation among commissioners. Speaking at a meeting earlier this month, District 10 commissioner Mike Hamby called on Classic Center officials to provide more clarity before a vote.
The Mayor and Commission are set to meet tonight at 6:00 p.m. to vote on the measure.
