The University of Georgia welcomes the class of 2027

On Wednesday, August 26 the University of Georgia will welcome the class of 2027 onto campus.

This fall, UGA welcomes 6,200 incoming students, hailing from 45 states and 143 Georgia counties. Selected from a record-breaking number of applicants, the incoming class has a cumulative grade point average of 4.13. This marks the seventh consecutive year with average GPAs over 4.0.

UGA’s President Jere W. Morehead has emphasized the achievement of the incoming class, as it includes 215 incoming Georgia valedictorians and salutatorians. Morehead said, “They will be in good company at UGA as they join an esteemed academic community that is committed to making a positive impact on our state, nation, and world,”.

Approximately 2,860 graduate students are beginning their studies at UGA this week, as well as 500 additional professional students within the schools of law, pharmacy, and veterinary medicine.

The University of Georgia is in its second year of the Active Learning Initiative, dedicating $6 million over the course of 5 years to increase active learning practices in classrooms. 91 faculty members attended a summer institute to redesign their classes to be more compatible with active learning.

This initiative comes as UGA hopes to hire 70 new faculty members in the upcoming year, recruiting professionals in electric mobility, precision agriculture, and brain and behavioral health.
