Undercover sex sting operation charges 31, 4 from northeast Georgia

Georgia Bureau of Investigation

Four men from northeast Georgia are among 31 statewide who face charges in an undercover sex sting operation. Most of the suspects were arrested during an 11-day period, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes Unit, which was the lead agency in the operation.

The investigation located computer users that the GBI said were sharing child pornography. The investigation also used undercover chat investigations by communicating with those who arranged to meet whom they believed was a child to engage in sexual acts. The local suspects included men from Athens, Auburn, Danielsville, and Hartwell.

The GBI reported it reviewed 296 electronic devices and seized 281 devices. There were 30 children residing in homes where these online sex offenses were occurring. More than two dozen law enforcement agencies were involved including the Athens Clarke County Police Department and the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office.
