ACC Commission to vote on how to address growing homelessness crisis

Homelessness is on the rise in Athens-Clarke County. Over the last five years, the number of people experiencing homelessness has increased by 61 percent. Next month, the Athens-Clarke County Commission is set to vote on a new plan to address this growing crisis.

While the plan itself won’t enact new policies, it does lay out a long list of new recommendations that ACC officials could pursue with the county’s remaining pandemic relief money. WUGA’s Alexia Ridley spoke to ACC Commissioner Jesse Houle about the plan and the importance of public input.

Alexia Ridley joined WUGA as Television and Radio News Anchor and Reporter in 2013. When WUGA TV concluded operations, she became the primary Reporter for WUGA Radio. Alexia came to Athens from Macon where she served as the News Director and show host for WGXA TV. She's a career journalist and Savannah native hailing from the University of Michigan. However, Alexia considers herself an honorary UGA DAWG!
