ACC Commissioners to see plans for new mental health facility

Advantage Behavioral Health Systems

Athens-Clarke County Commissioners are set to see plans for a new mental health facility at a work session tomorrow.

As designed, the facility would contain 26 two-bedroom housing units for people with mental illnesses. It would be located next door to the current Advantage Behavioral Health Systems building on Mitchell Bridge Road.

The site was designed to be built in two phases, funded by SPLOST 2020 and federal ARPA funds. Advantage Behavioral Health Systems, which is building and administering the facility, is also asking state officials for money to allow both phases of the project to be built at the same time.

Commissioners will hear a presentation on the design at a work session on Tuesday and are expected to vote on the design early next month. The facility could be completed as early as Summer 2025.
