ACC lawmakers to discuss changes to EMS agreement

Piedmont.org

Some changes could be coming to ambulance and EMS service in Athens.

ACC commissioners are expected to review a new proposed agreement between the county and Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center which would govern emergency medical services in Clarke and Oconee Counties.

The terms of the proposed agreement address what some have characterized as a lack of accountability in the system by requiring quarterly performance reports and semi-annual performance presentations to the Mayor and Commission.

Those reports and presentations would measure a number of performance indicators including the number of times all available units were out on a call, the average number of units in service by location, and the total response time, as well as the average time it takes for an emergency call to be answered by operators and have a unit dispatched.

Commissioners are expected to discuss the plan at a work session Tuesday evening.
