UGA's NPR affiliate WUGA wins Georgia Association of Broadcasters awards

The WUGA news team for two First Place awards at the GABBY AWARDS presented by the Georgia Association of Broadcasters.

In the ceremonies held at Jekyll Island Saturday evening, WUGA's daily podcast, Athens Today, received the award for Best Podcast Series and Isabela Weiss' 2022 journalism about Nazi symbols in a Cobb County school was awarded first place in General Reporting. WUGA Program Director and Content Strategist, Martin Matheny is shown with former WUGA reporter, Isabela Weiss, who now works for WVIA, an NPR station in Pennsylvania.

WUGA FM is the NPR affiliate operated by the University of Georgia in a partnership with Georgie Public Broadcasting.

Jimmy Sanders was general manager of WUGA from 2011 to April 1, 2024. He has worked in broadcasting for over 50 years and has produced news, documentary, music, sports and special events programs for radio and television. Jimmy is a graduate of Grady College.
