ACC controversial homelessness prevention plan heads for a vote next week

A new report on strategies to prevent and reduce homelessness is in front of Athens-Clarke County commissioners for a vote next Tuesday. Normally, the vote to accept a report like that is relatively non-controversial, but this report may be different.

At a work session earlier this month, some commissioners expressed consternation with the final product, saying that it didn’t really suggest any new strategies. WUGA’s Martin Matheny spoke to District 2 Commissioner Melissa Link about the plan, as well as a new ban on short-term rentals in some parts of Athens.

Martin Matheny was formerly WUGA's Program Director and a host and producer of our local news program 'Athens News Matters.' He started at WUGA in 2012 as a part-time classical music host and still hosts WUGA's longest-running local program 'Night Music' which was heard on WUGA and GPB Classical. He is now the Morning Edition Host for Delaware First Media.
