Athens' Katie Walker has been promoted within Georgia Bureau of Investigation

Two women with ties to Athens have been promoted within the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Agent Katie Walker was promoted to assistant agent in charge of the GBI’s Metro Gang Task Force.

Walker, who graduated from the University of Georgia in 2011 with a degree in child and family development, began her career in law enforcement as a sex offender analyst with the Georgia Information and Sharing and Analysis Center and joined the GBI in 2014.

In her new role, Walker will supervise staff assigned to the gang task force which investigates gang-associated crimes from murder to drug trafficking.

Jeff has delivered morning news at WUGA Radio for more than a decade. He was among a team at CNN that won a George Foster Peabody Award in 1991 for an educational product based on the fall of the Soviet Union. He also won an Edward R. Murrow Award from Radio Television Digital News Association in 2007 for producing a series for WSB Radio on financial scams. Jeff is a graduate of the Babcock Graduate School of Management at Wake Forest University (MBA) and holds a BS in Business Administration from Campbell University, both in North Carolina.
