Man Sentenced to 30 Years for Shooting That Injured Two Athens Girls

An Atlanta man has been sentenced to 30 years in connection with a shooting earlier this year that injured two Athens girls. According to a release from the Athens-Clarke County Police department, 38-year old Rasheed Scott entered a guilty plea agreement with the District Attorney’s Office.

Police say on April 26th officers responded to a shooting at a shopping center in the 400 block of North Avenue. They found a 5-year old girl with an injury to her eye and a 14-year old girl with a gunshot wound to the arm. They were taken by EMS to a local hospital for treatment. The 5-year old lost her eye and has since been fitted with a prosthetic.

On April 27th Scott was charged with Aggravated Assault and Possession of a Firearm During omission of a Crime. He was sentenced on September 27, 2023.
