ACCPD Investigating Fatal Vehicle/Pedestrian Crash

The Athens-Clarke County Police Department is investigating a car crash that left one pedestrian dead and another wounded. Shortly after 8 o’ clock Thursday night, police responded to the scene of Highway 29 southbound near Harve Mathis Road. They say 44-year old Michael Wilson of Athens and 33-year old Brittany Streetman, also of Athens, along with another woman were crossing Highway 29 South from the Valero gas station heading west toward the Texaco gas station when a 2008 GMC Acadia traveling southbound struck Wilson and Streetman. The third pedestrian was not injured.

EMS transported Wilson to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Streetman did not report any injuries.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information regarding the crash is asked to contact Senior Police Officer Joey Lewis at 762-400-7169, or via email at joey.lewis@accgov.com.

This is the 114th fatal crash in Athens-Clarke County in 2023.
