UGA Soccer Wins First SEC Championship

University of Georgia women’s soccer made history on Sunday by defeating the University of Arkansas 1-0 and claiming their first Southeastern Conference tournament championship in program history at Ashton Brosnaham Park in Pensacola, Florida.

Graduate midfielder Mallie McKenzie sent a pass towards the goal in the seventh minute intended to be knocked in by graduate forward Hannah White. An Arkansas defender however hit the ball with her knee, resulting in an own goal and putting the Bulldogs up by one.

Graduate midfielder Croix Bethune led the team with two shots on goal and received SEC Tournament MVP honors. McKenzie, White and sophomore goalkeeper Jordan Brown also joined the SEC All-Tournament Team.

The NCAA Women’s Soccer Selection Show will take place today, where Georgia will learn its opponent for the first round of the 2023 D1 women’s soccer tournament held next weekend.
