Athens Drug Bust Keeps $340K in Meth off Streets

An Athens drug bust ended with six people behind bars and 39 kilograms of methamphetamine seized. According to a release from the Athens-Clarke County Police Department, Northeast Regional Drug Task, in cooperation with the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office, South Carolina, ACCPD, Clarke County Sheriff’s Office, Oglethorpe County Sheriff’s Office, Greene County Sheriff’s Office and Walton County Sheriff’s Office, conducted a lengthy operation into Methamphetamine trafficking in Athens.

Two searches were conducted, one at Hallmark trailer park on Spring Valley Road and one at Pinewood Estates North trailer park on US Highway 29 North. Authorities seized 39 kilograms of meth, with a street value of more than $340,000, a 9 millimeter handgun, and $32,000 in cash. Six people were arrested for trafficking meth. Two of those arrests, Edgar Garcia Hernandez and Jose Macias-Garcia, were in Athens.
