A 26-year-old Athens man has been arrested and charged with murder in a shooting that took place yesterday morning. According to authorities, officers responded to a report of a shooting on Athens Road at around 9:00 a.m. Upon arrival, police found one victim, 48-year-old Willie Antonio Jewell of Winterville dead at the scene.
The suspect, Cedric Jones, was arrested at the scene.
Meanwhile, police are also investigating two other shootings that took place on Sunday. At around 5:30 pm, a shooting was reported on Viking Court near Cedar Shoals Drive. One person was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.
Police are also investigating a shooting on Zebulon Drive in East Athens. In that incident, a vehicle was shot at but left the scene. Witnesses reported that a passenger in the car had been shot.
