Authorities are investigating the death of a woman on the University of Georgia campus. According to a timely warning from UGA police her body was found in a wooded area at the Intramural Fields. The woman had been reported missing after she didn’t return home after going on a run this morning. Police were called shortly after 12 pm and officers responded to the area and immediately began a search. They discovered the woman’s body with visible injuries. Police say foul play is suspected.

University police are being assisted by the Athens-Clarke County Police Department and the GBI. If if you think you have any information related to this incident, you are urged to contact the UGA Police Department at 706-542-2200.

In a statement, President Jere Morehead said “The past 24 hours have been a traumatic time for our university. Our student body is grieving the sudden death of one our students in Brumby Hall last night. And as we continue to mourn that tragic loss of life, today’s devastating news will uniquely test the resolve of our campus community, particularly our students.”
UGA police clarified at a press conference Thursday evening that the woman was not a UGA student.

Classes were cancelled Thursday evening and Friday. They will resume on Monday, February 26.
